About Mysuru

A city of palaces, sandalwood, silk, yoga, and the magnificent living legacy of the Wadiyar dynasty

The City of Palaces

Mysuru — formerly Mysore — is one of India's most celebrated and graceful cities, ranking consistently among the cleanest and most liveable in the country. As the former capital of the Kingdom of Mysore, ruled by the illustrious Wadiyar dynasty for over 600 years, it carries a regal legacy visible in every palace, garden, and institution of the city.

Beyond its royal heritage, Mysuru is famous worldwide for Ashtanga Yoga — the city is the global home of the yoga tradition. It is also the country's leading producer of sandalwood and Mysore silk, both of international renown. The annual Dasara festival, known as Nada Habba (State Festival), transforms Mysuru into a city of golden light, royal processions, and cultural celebration for ten spectacular days each October.
